AGRO INNOVATION LAB

The Agro Innovation Lab is an innovation platform of BayWa & RWA and the Raiffeisen Lagerhaus cooperatives.

The Agro Innovation Lab was founded in January 2016. It is a joint subsidiary of BayWa & RWA. RWA is the wholesale and service company in Austria and holds participations in Central and Eastern Europe. The business activities of the BayWa Group are divided into the three segments – agriculture, energy and construction – and the wholesale and retail trade and logistics, as well as the provision of extensive complementary consulting and services.

Our goal is to be the partner of choice for agricultural innovations in Europe. This is why we have created the so-called “Innovation Loop”.

We offer our startups the unique opportunity to cooperate directly with BayWa & RWA, two of the most important players in the global agricultural industry, to enter into contact with selected partners and investors and to receive individual mentoring and coaching. This allows them access to a global market, decades of experience, a unique pool of expertise and an international network.

In the Agro Innovation Lab we constantly observe market developments and search for the latest innovative trends in the field of agriculture.
We believe that one of our roles is supporting the further development of companies and business models. Hence, our Acceleration Program provides the services and resources necessary for the speedy development of startups. We are looking for:

  • teams who want to improve their business model or optimize their prototype by testing it together with our experts and/or on the market, and
  • teams who already have a market-ready product and need support in the areas of know-how and networking so that they can professionally expand their business.

A further benefit for our participants is the close cooperation with business units of our parent companies. Digital Farming (by BayWa AG) and Farming Innovations (by RWA) are particularly worth mentioning. Both pursue the goal of offering and marketing innovative products, solutions and services for agriculture, either directly or through our partners on the market.
Our market access in Austria includes our partners, the Raiffeisen Lagerhaus cooperatives with more than 1,000 sales outlets and more than 120,000 cooperative members. BayWa has 17,000 employees worldwide, over 3,000 locations in 34 countries and over 290 subsidiaries.
We cooperate with the many subsidiaries of BayWa and RWA in Germany, Austria and across Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. These include more than 30 sales and production locations. In the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. Amongst our cooperation partners are : Garant Tiernahrung GmbH, Bio-Getreide Austria GmbH and  Genolgesellschaft m.b.H. & Co KG, the BayWa r.e. Renewable energy GmbH, based in Munich, BayWa Agrar International B.V., based in Rotterdam (NL), BayWa Agrarhandel GmbH, based in Nienburg, T & G Global Ltd. based in Auckland (NZ), TFC Holland B.V. based in Maasdijk (NL), and BayWa Obst GmbH & Co.
