The DLG Field Days took place in Kirschgartshausen near Mannheim (Germany) in June. Georg and Florian were there and enjoyed many conversations with existing and potential partners.
Capturing industry trends and maintaining close contacts with the most important players are central to our work. The DLG Field Days enabled us to visit our long-time partner Naïo Technologies and to witness the latest trials of its robot as it simultaneously collected and processed data. AgroIntelli, a participant in our Robotics Challenge in 2019, was also amongst the exhibitors. We’re always delighted to see our alumni making good progress with their robots.
Another very important trend in soil cultivation is so-called “in-row” cultivation. Equipment in this area was also exhibited and we gained an insight into a number of interesting approaches such as the detection of harmful plants by camera systems and light barriers.
Among many other subjects, the event also offered us an update on “carbon farming”. This is the process in which carbon is filtered from the air and stored as humus in the soil. It allows farmers to not only compensate for their own emissions but also reduce the emissions of others. Intelligent crop rotation also creates an incidental benefit in which the bound carbon enriches the earth into fertile soil. The RWA is already active in this segment through its „Zukunft Erde“ programme and the humus-promoting seeds from „Die Saat“.
