In recent years, drones have shown themselves to be valuable tools in agriculture. One of the latest applications of drones is the sowing of seeds on agricultural land. This brings numerous benefits, from increased efficiency to environmental protection.

The greatest advantage of drones is undoubtedly the fact that sowing can also take place in deep and wet soils. Similarly, whereas driving over standing crops with machinery can cause great damage, drones can sow catch crops in the standing crop before it is harvested. The advantages of this become apparent immediately after harvest due to the continuation of nutrient uptake and the significantly reduced drying out of the soil.

Another advantage of drones in seed application is their ability to reach inaccessible or steep terrain. Many fields in rural areas can be difficult to access due to slopes or other topographical challenges but drones enable seeds to be easily applied in such situations.

This season, we will be conducting and evaluating tests with a range of crops. And we’ve been able to bring two new expert partners on board for these tests – a well-known drone manufacturer and HTL Ried Agrar- und Umwelttechnik. The tests will focus on both the technical aspects of and the agricultural requirements for sowing and we expect to gain valuable insights that will enable us to offer further services in this area in the future. Stay tuned!
