The largest trade fair for agricultural innovations took place in London in September. Lena was there for AIL.
Over 800 agri-food specialists came together for two days at the World Agri Tech Summit in London to discuss the latest topics. This year’s focuses were the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and food value chains. Alongside supply security, the current main challenges include labour shortages, extreme natural events, the volatile market situation and water supply problems. And while startups are developing innovative solutions that respond to these challenges, established corporations and governments are also aware of the importance of changing the way that business is carried out.
The startup competition at the event was won by “Enifer Bio”, a Finnish company that specialises in the production of a usable protein from the waste generated by the timber industry. It will also be fascinating to see how the EU will deal with CRISPR technology in future and how investment in startups in the agricultural sector will evolve in the light of the changing economic situation.
